Fresh, dark and juicy, with red cherry, strawberry, clove and a smoky finish. Grown in the clay-rich soils of Friuli in Italy’s northeast, this lesser-known red grape — Schioppettino — means “little gunshot”, a nod to its spicy bite. The Bassani family have farmed here since 1959, pioneering low-impact winemaking and now running the estate on geothermal energy and zero emissions. Pure fruit, gentle extraction and no oak let the grape’s soft, peppery charm shine through.
